VISTA’S SWEET CONNECTION TO THE STRAWBERRY

In the 1960s and 1970s, strawberries were shipped daily from Vista during peak season to many parts of the United States as well as Europe and Asia. Many called Vista the Unofficial Strawberry Capitol of the World during its heyday.

Consumers in the Netherlands even thought our strawberries were a different fruit because of their much larger size. So, the Dutch affectionally called the fruits “Vistas” upon seeing our City’s name on the shipping crates.

While strawberry production in Vista is limited these days, we have continued to celebrate our berry important history with the festival since 2010.
